Our Three Pronged Strategy
Promoting Access to Higher Education for Minorities
Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asian Americans are entitled to equal access to all institutions of higher education. Ensuring greater access and participation by minorities in higher education is one of the most practical ways of moving America closer to the ideal of equal opportunity, which is the actualization of the American dream. The Howie Foundation is committed to supporting programs that eliminate some of the significant obstacles that minorities face when attempting to access higher education nationally.
Promoting stronger ties between Faith Based Institutions and the Community
Faithbased institutions have been known to have strong ties with the community. These institutions often provide stability, support, and guidance to millions of people in the United States. In the context of education, faith-based institutions can be a valuable resource for supporting struggling students. Populations at risk of adverse academic outcomes, especially black and Latino students, tend to have strong ties to faith communities. The Howie Foundation is committed to supporting churches, mosques, temples, and other religious centers who take the lead at providing support and stability to at-risk communities.
Promoting Access to Capital
Minority owned businesses are critical to the national and local economies. They are a vital part of job creation and preservation. Many of these businesses face obstacles to surviving and thriving, particularly because of difficulty accessing capital. Adequate financing is essential for starting and running a business. Lack of funding opportunities has been an ongoing issue and barrier for many minority-owned businesses, and these disparities have been especially highlighted throughout the COVID19 pandemic. The Howie Foundation is committed to providing tools and training that helps minority businesses access the capital that can help their businesses survive, thrive, and contribute to economic growth and their local communities.
